The Taupe Muskoka chair

A warm grey-brown that sits between the greys and the browns and belongs with stone.

The Classic Muskoka Chair, ottoman and side table in Taupe

Taupe is the colour of a good stone patio and of a lot of modern siding, which is why it disappears so gracefully into both. It is a grey with brown in it — or a brown with grey in it, depending on the light — and it reads as natural without pretending to be wood.

It is the most versatile neutral in the range. Cedar can look too warm against a grey house; Grey can look too cold against a cedar one; Taupe works with either. Against a green lawn or a tree line it settles in without vanishing.

It stays reasonably cool in the sun and hides dust well, and it is the colour we suggest most often to people who say "I don't want it to stand out."

Questions

Is Taupe more grey or more brown?

Even. In cool morning light it leans grey; in warm evening light it leans brown. Beside Sand it looks grey; beside Harbour Grey it looks brown.
