How many Muskoka chairs fit?

Three feet per chair, plus room to get out. Here are the numbers.

Round a fire pit

  • 30–36" pit: 4 chairs, 3 feet back from the edge, at the compass points.
  • 40–48" pit: 6 chairs, same spacing.
  • Larger, or a bonfire ring: 8, and they stop being a conversation.

Keep the front edge of the seat at least 3 feet from a wood fire and 2 feet from a gas one. HDPE softens well above any temperature you would sit at, but embers mark anything. The fire pit page.

On a deck

  • 8×10: 2 chairs and a table.
  • 10×12: 2 chairs with ottomans and a table, or 4 chairs.
  • 12×16: 4 chairs, 2 ottomans, 2 tables, and room to walk.
  • 16×20: a set of 6 round a pit, plus a dining set.

On a dock

A 4-foot-wide dock takes one chair facing out with a walkway. A 6-foot dock takes two side by side at the end. An 8-foot dock or a T takes two with a table between and a walkway behind. Face them at the view, not each other; that is what a dock chair is for.

On a porch

A 6-foot-deep porch takes one row. Two chairs and a table per 8 feet of length. Leave the ottoman off the porch unless it is 8 feet deep.

Buying the number

Two, four and six are the numbers people end up with, which is why sets of two, four and six are 15, 20 and 25 percent off every chair. The sets.
