The 10-year cost of a cheap chair vs a $299 chair
The cheap one is the expensive one. Here is why, in six lines.
- The $150 resin chair lasts two or three winters. Four of them in ten years: $600, and four chairs in landfill.
- The $250 cedar chair needs $40 of stain and a Saturday every spring, and a replacement around year seven: about $1,000.
- The $299 recycled HDPE chair needs a hose. Ten years: $299. Twenty: $299.
- What the sum leaves out: the cedar looked better for its first summer. That is real, and it is one summer.
- What it also leaves out: the Saturdays.
- The set version: four HDPE chairs at 20% off is $957; four cedar chairs and forty cans of stain is a different number entirely.
