Every term you will meet buying a chair, in plain words.
- HDPEHigh-density polyethylene: the plastic milk jugs are made of, and the material of our chair.
- Poly lumberSolid boards extruded from HDPE, milled and bolted like timber.
- Recycled plastic lumberPoly lumber made from post-consumer HDPE rather than new resin.
- Resin (moulded plastic)Hollow plastic furniture made by injecting plastic into a mould.
- Composite (wood-plastic)Wood fibre mixed with plastic; most composite decking.
- UV stabiliserAn additive that stops sunlight breaking down plastic.
- ColourfastA colour that does not fade, run or chalk.
- Pigmented throughThe colour is in the material, not on it.
- Marine gradeBuilt to survive constant water, salt and sun.
- Stainless steel hardwareBolts and screws that do not rust.
- Adirondack chairThe American name for the chair: tilted seat, slatted back, wide arms.
- Muskoka chairThe Canadian name for the Adirondack chair.
- Westport chairThe original 1905 patented version, with a single-plank back and seat.
- Slat backA back made of several narrow boards rather than one plank.
- Fan backA slat back whose slats spread outward toward the top.
- Contoured seatA seat shaped to the body rather than flat.
- OttomanAn angled footrest that continues the seat.
- FootstoolA flat, low stool for the feet.
- Side tableA small table at arm height, beside the chair.
- Deck chairIn North America, any chair for a deck; in Britain, a folding canvas sling.
- Patio chairA chair for a stone or concrete patio.
- Lounge chairA chair for reclining rather than sitting upright.
- Outdoor furnitureFurniture made to live outside year-round.
- Made to orderBuilt when you order it, in your colour, rather than pulled from stock.
- Lead timeThe time from order to delivery.
- Curbside deliveryDelivered to the door or curb, not carried in.
- Flat-packShipped as boards and hardware, assembled at home.
- Residential warrantyThe warranty for a chair in home use.
- Commercial warrantyThe warranty for a chair in business use.
- Fire pit chairA low, reclined chair for sitting round a fire.
- Dock chairA chair that lives at the end of a dock.
- Cottage furnitureFurniture for a lake or country house that is left there.
- Set pricingA discount on every chair when you buy two, four or six.
