The Blue Adirondack chair

A clear, confident lake blue. The color of the water on the first hot day of the year.

The Classic Adirondack Chair, ottoman and side table in Blue

Blue is the happiest color we make, and the one that appears on the most postcards. It is a true mid blue — not navy, not sky — that looks like it belongs beside water because it is the color of water in the sun.

It is at its best in a pair with White, which is the classic dock arrangement, and it works surprisingly well with Sand and Light Grey for a softer coastal set. One Blue chair among four Greys is a designer's trick that costs nothing.

The pigment is through the board, so the color that looks so good in the first photograph is the color in the tenth summer; painted blue chairs are the ones that chalk and flake fastest, and this is not one of those.

Who picks Blue

Docks and boathouses. Anyone with children. Pool decks that want a bit of joy. Rentals that want a chair guests photograph.

Questions

Will Blue fade in the sun?

It is UV-stabilised and pigmented through the material. Any color shifts very slightly over many years outdoors; it will not chalk, flake or go patchy the way painted blue does.
