Adirondack chairs by the pool

Chlorine, salt water and sunscreen all wash off. Choose a pale color for the sun.

Chairs beside a pool

A pool deck is the hardest place for outdoor furniture: full sun all day, splashed with chlorinated or salt water, wiped with sunscreen, hosed down weekly. Wood greys in one season here; painted metal chalks; resin chalks and cracks. HDPE lumber absorbs none of it. Chlorine, salt and sunscreen sit on the surface and rinse off with the deck.

Color

Pale. Light Grey, Sand and White stay cool in all-day sun; dark colors get warm enough to notice by mid-afternoon. Blue and White is the classic pool set. Light Grey is the one we recommend most for pools.

Weight

A light chair goes in the pool. A 38-lb one does not. If it does go in, it sinks, does not float away, and comes out unharmed.

Layout

Two chairs with the ottomans out and a table between, facing the water, on the long side. That is a lounger set without the lounger.
