10 cottage-warming gifts that will still be there in twenty years
Things that will still be at the cottage in twenty summers. One of them is ours.
- A cast-iron pan. Outlasts the cottage.
- A proper axe, and a stone to keep it sharp.
- A dock ladder in aluminium; the wooden ones rot at the waterline.
- A pair of Adirondack chairs in recycled HDPE, so they are not the thing that needs staining every May. Giving one.
- A weather station on the wall, for arguing about.
- A canoe paddle with their name on it.
- Board games in a waterproof box.
- A good flashlight, and a second one.
- A fire pit and, eventually, four chairs round it.
- A guest book. Twenty years from now it is the best thing in the place.
